The Cartoon Art Museum

San Francisco

More from Mario Hernandez's talk at the Cartoon Art Museum, held this last Thursday, March 7: Hernandez and curator Andrew Farago discussed the influence of comics legend Will Eisner on the creators of Love and Rockets. (The appeal of a character in plain clothes who traveled the world having adventures can clearly be seen in early Love and Rockets stories.)

Anecdotes that Hernandez shared include his memory of discovering The Spirit - pictured above - as a kid (only to be surprised that his mother was already familiar with the comic) and the fact that Eisner himself was a fan of Love and Rockets.

Farago also announced that the museum will be hosting an exhibit on Eisner’s graphic novel work in summer 2013, in the very same room currently occupied by the Love and Rockets show.
